Calling all IT professionals!

Did you know that you could be entitled to labour laws, even though the IT industry has traditionally been exempt from such regulations? The Industrial Employment Standing Orders Act, 1946 has not typically applied to IT companies, but new government regulations have changed the game.

In honor of International Labour Day, we want to educate you about the 5 major labour laws that can benefit you during this challenging period of economic downturn. Don’t miss out on these crucial labour laws insights that could potentially transform your professional life!

5 Labour laws in IT/ITes industries⚖️:

1. Trade Unions Act (1926):

The Trade Unions Act gives the right to Indian citizens to form and join unions. This act enables employees to collectively bargain with employers and negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

The IT industry has seen a significant rise in unionisation in recent years, with many IT employees forming unions. Some examples of these trade unions are Karnataka State IT/ITES Employees Union, Forum for IT Employees (FITE), NDLF-IT (New Democratic Labour Front-IT), Indian IT Workers Association (ITWA).

These trade unions help IT employees demand better working conditions, job security, and fair compensation.

2. Payment of Wages (1936):

The Payment of Wages Act mandates that employers must pay their employees in a timely and accurate manner. In case of any delay, the employer must provide a valid reason for the delay.

The Payment of Wages Act also lays down the rules regarding the deductions that can be made from an employee’s wages. Deductions are allowed for specific purposes, such as income tax, provident fund, and insurance.

In the IT industry, where employees work on tight schedules and deadlines, timely payment of wages is essential to maintain a stable work environment. The Payment of Wages Act ensures that employees are paid on time and can focus on their work without worrying about their financial stability.

3. Payment of Gratuity (1948):

The Payment of Gratuity Act mandates that employers provide a gratuity payment to employees who have completed a minimum of five years of continuous service. This act ensures that employees receive a lump sum payment upon retirement or resignation, which can help provide financial security during their post-retirement years.

The IT industry, like any other industry, has a significant turnover rate, and this act ensures that employees who have completed a significant amount of time with an employer receive a gratuity payment.

4. Maternity Benefit (1961):

The Maternity Benefit Act of 1961 is one of the most important labour laws. It provides expectant mothers with up to 26 weeks of paid leave, which they can take either before or after giving birth.

The IT industry in India is known for its highly skilled workforce, and it employs a large number of women. However, the industry has traditionally been male-dominated, and female employees often face discrimination and bias in the workplace. The Maternity Benefit Act helps to address some of these issues by providing female employees with the necessary time off to recover from childbirth and adjust to their new roles as mothers.

The act also helps to promote gender equality in the workplace by ensuring that female employees are not disadvantaged for taking time off to have children.

5. The Sexual Harassment of Women (Prevention, Probation, Redressal) (2013):

This act defines sexual harassment and provides a comprehensive framework for preventing and addressing such incidents in the workplace. It mandates the formation of Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) in every workplace with more than ten employees, and these committees are responsible for addressing complaints related to sexual harassment.

The IT industry has a large number of female employees, and this act has helped in creating a safer and more inclusive workplace culture for them. The act has brought greater awareness about sexual harassment and has made it mandatory for employers to take steps to prevent and address such incidents.

Employers are required to conduct awareness programs and sensitization training to ensure that all employees are aware of their rights and responsibilities regarding sexual harassment. The act also provides for strict penalties for non-compliance, which has made employers more vigilant in preventing sexual harassment in the workplace.

Project 2: Personal website 🌐

This might be the go to many front end developers’ choice. A personal website will give you the versatility of showing glimpse of your other projects as well.

You must be good at HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create an impressive website that reflects your personality and style. There is a good chance that beginners will get lost in focusing on the design so much that they forget about functionality. Strike a balance between the two. As a beginner choose status websites to work with and then you can add all the cool animations that you wanted. As you are working on your website by yourself make sure that you have optimised for SEO as well.

Project 3: News aggregator 📰

This might be a new addition but these websites are trending right now. This website generates a lot of traffic as it collects news content from different sources in one place.

You must know JavaScript and frameworks like React or Angular to build this website. Additionally you must have skills in data management, API integration, and user interface design. Remember to display the news in a user-friendly way. For inspiration you can look at some popular news aggregator websites and apps like Google News, Flipboard, and Feedly.

You must be proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with an API like OpenWeatherMap, to create an app that displays weather information for different locations. Start by choosing an API. I would recommend OpenWeatherMap. Plan your designs ahead of coding. Build your website using HTML,CSS and JavaScript.

Display the weather data and add extra features like a search bar. Make your app live and share it with your friends.

Project 5: Interactive Game 🎮

This is a new one isn’t it? Yes, you can make an interactive gaming that will demonstrate your skills in creating engaging user experiences. It can also be a great addition to your portfolio as well.

Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a full-stack developer looks like? It’s a world of coding, testing, and problem-solving, but it’s also a world of creativity, collaboration, and innovation. So, join me as I explore the exciting journey of me as a full-stack developer with UniKaksha and discover the challenges and rewards of this fast-paced career.

Here goes a day in a life of a full-stack developer:

6:30 AM – Rise and shine

As a full-stack developer, I believe in starting the day on the right foot. I start my day 10 minute meditation to set a positive tone for the day, then a quick workout followed by a nutritious breakfast, which helps me prepare myself for a long day ahead. I use this time to catch up on the latest tech news and read blogs on industry trends and updates.

8:00 AM – Arrive at work

I’m usually one of the first people to arrive at the office, ready to tackle the day’s tasks. I grab a cup of coffee and start planning my schedule for the day. This involves reviewing my to-do list, assessing priorities, and coordinating with my team on project goals and timelines.

9:00 AM – Time to code

Now that I have a clear plan of what I need to do, it’s time to start coding. I often work closely with other members of their development team, such as designers, project managers and other developers. This involves writing code for both the front-end and back-end of the application, integrating features, and testing the code for bugs and errors. I work in a collaborative environment, and my team is always on hand to assist with any issues that may arise.

12:30 PM – Lunch Break

After several hours of coding, it is important to take a break and recharge. I take a break to grab a bite to eat, chat with my colleagues and take a breather. This is also a great opportunity to network and discuss new ideas with other developers and tech enthusiasts.

1:30 PM – Continue coding

After lunch, it’s back to the grind. I continue to code and test the application, tweaking features and making necessary changes. It’s important to stay focused, but it’s also important to take a break if I hit a roadblock. Sometimes, stepping back and approaching a problem from a different angle can be the key to finding a solution.

6:00 PM – End of the day

As the end of the day approaches, I review my progress and prepare for tomorrow. I update my team on any progress made and discuss any roadblocks that must be addressed. Before leaving the office, I double-check that all code is properly backed up and saved, ensuring that I can pick up where I left off tomorrow.

7:00 PM – Relaxation time

After a long day of coding, it’s time to unwind. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching a movie, reading a book, or playing video games. This downtime allows me to recharge, reflect on the day’s challenges and prepare for another day in the life of a full-stack developer.

In conclusion, life of a full-stack developer is a rewarding and exciting career. It’s a world of innovation, creativity, and collaboration, where every day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth. If you’re considering a career in tech, full-stack development could be the perfect fit for you. And what’s better than UniKaksha’s Full stack web developer program? So, get ready to roll up your sleeves, embrace the challenges and dive into the world of full-stack development – you won’t regret it!

React is a popular JavaScript library that has been gaining popularity in recent years. It has become a popular choice among developers, especially those who are working as full-stack web developers. If you’re a web developer, you must be wondering what the advantages of using React are.

Here are the top 7 advantages of using React:

1. Faster rendering: React uses a virtual DOM, meaning the DOM elements are not directly manipulated. Instead, React creates a virtual representation of the DOM and updates it as needed. This approach makes React faster than other JavaScript libraries like Angular.

2. Reusable components: React allows you to create reusable components, which can be used across multiple projects. This feature not only saves time but also improves the consistency of your code.

3. Easy to learn: React is easy to learn and use, even for beginners. It has a simple syntax and follows a straightforward approach, making it an excellent choice for building complex applications.

4. Large community: React has a large community of developers who contribute to its development and provide support. This community is constantly improving the library, adding new features, and fixing bugs.

5. Cross-platform: React can be used to develop applications for multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and desktop. This flexibility makes React a versatile choice for developers.

6. SEO-friendly: React applications are SEO-friendly, meaning they are easily crawlable by search engines. This is because React uses server-side rendering, which generates HTML on the server and sends it to the client.

7. Better performance: React has better performance than other JavaScript libraries like Angular. This is because React uses a unidirectional data flow, ensuring the components are always in sync.

Overall, React has several advantages over other JavaScript libraries like Angular. It is faster, easier to learn, and has a larger community of developers. React also offers better performance and cross-platform compatibility.

Hi, fellow coders! Hope your codes are running error free!

We, coders, love the time we spent in front of VS Studio but what about your health? We at least have some kind of pain every other day. So what can we do to run our bodies code-free as well?

Let’s take a quick moment to stop and reflect on how well we are taking care of ourselves by adopting these 7 programming habits on this World Health Day.

7 Programming Habits to Adopt on World Health Day:

1. Good Posture

Let’s start with the basics!
Maintaining a good posture boosts your productivity as you feel more energized, reduces headaches, and even reduces injuries to the wrist, back, neck, or arms. It is also a major confidence booster.

Here are the steps to maintain a good posture:

  • Keep your shoulders back and straight.
  • Keep your back flat against the chair.
  • Keep your knees at the same height as your hips.
  • Keep your eyes flat on the ground.
  • Keep the screen at your eye level.

2. Protect your eyes

Not taking care of your eyes may lead to dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and in some extreme cases even neck and shoulder pain. Ignoring these might ultimately lead to you getting sick and taking your eyes off the screen.

Let’s make sure our eyes are protected using the below steps:

  • Make sure the room is lit properly.
  • Use the 20/20/20 rule. This means if you look at the screen for 20 minutes, you must look at something at least 20 feet away from you for 20 seconds.
  • Reduce glare by using an anti-glare matte screen on your laptop or use anti-reflective glasses.
  • Reduce blue light by special glasses or reduce the color temperature of the screen.

3. Take breaks

Although we coders have the Flow State, pushing yourself even when you are experiencing physical strain will have long-term effects on your health. Forcibly breaking the flow state is also going to affect your productivity.

Here are some steps that I follow that have helped me in taking effective breaks:

  • Take breaks when they are natural like you feel hungry or you need to hit the loo.
  • Take a break for 15 min to 20 min.
  • Do spend the break time on electronic devices.
  • Look at something that is far from you, this will help your eyes get relaxed.
  • Stay active, talk to your family, and friends, or play a small round of fetch with your pet.

4. Eat healthy

Diet is always going to be an essential part of being healthy. Eating unhealthy can lead to brain fog and feeling lethargic while a good diet does lead to improved memory and an energized body.

Make sure you have these steps included in your diet for a healthier lifestyle:

  • Reduce Sugar and Caffeine intake.
  • Include foods with Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D in your meals.
  • Include fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Drink plenty of water. Have water to sip on at your workstation.

5. Stress management techniques

This is going to be the make-or-break deal for a programmer in his life. We have even heard instances of programmers quitting as they were under immense pressure.

Let’s start stress management today so that our love for programming stays intact using the below steps:

  • Maintain a journal that has your goals written in the morning so that you can complete them on time and not stress about them.
  • Maintain a clean desk. Stop cluttering the desk with unnecessary things.
  • Make walking a habit be it in the morning or when you come back from the office.
  • Exercise at least 3 hours a week.
  • Start Yoga or Meditation for a piece of mind.

6. 8 hours of good sleep

Maybe you’ve had instances where you’ve been able to figure out errors in the early morning with a fresh mind that you couldn’t the previous night. Well, that’s the power of a fresh mind!

Here are a few steps that can help you in improving your sleep patterns and be energized:

  • Stick to a sleep schedule
  • Sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours.
  • Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature.
  • No screen time before an hour to bed.
  • Stop intake of caffeine products in the evenings.
